Was she really that gorgeous! The entire class was talking about her, except me. How can I comment, I didn’t bother to see her. Oh, but her wavy, long hair was indeed beautiful, the only thing I noticed from so far, not consciously though.
Anyway, I don’t care how good looking she is, why shall I! I had to sit on the last bench just because of her. I know she was new to the class and all the seats were occupied which was nothing new. The number of students is many times more than its strength. The situation is now such that to sit in your favorite place you have to come early by thirty minutes or more. As time ticks closer, your chance to get a comfortable seat gets bleaker. Arriving just in time leaves you no room, you have to look for a place somewhere or ask a friend to squeeze themselves and make space for you on their bench already running out of capacity. You are always greeted with exasperation in that case. The last thing is to get a chair from the office, a hot seat. I wonder if there will come a day when someone stands for the whole lecture.
Our classrooms are given colorful names. Today’s lecture was in the brown room, yes everything here is painted in shades of brown except the chalkboard. It has two rows each having 12 benches, one occupied by boys while the other by girls. Every bench is a two seater but I hardly remember the last time I have seen two on a bench. At Least three fit in and if they are slender like me then four. It was an evening lecture at 7:30 p.m. and I was on the first bench with two other boys. I was more than settled when she entered. Everyone was busy talking and shouting like it was a market. Among all the people, the peon’s eye fell on me when he could have picked someone else to shift or simply adjust her in the girl’s row. He asked me to go to the last bench and allow her to sit in my place. Because of her, I had to struggle in understanding what the professor was teaching , from that other end of the world where I have never wandered even to explore. It was an important lecture!
Oh! But it’s not the girl’s mistake or is it? Why am I scorning her? I wish I could have seen her. Rahul was the most active guy in praising her beauty. Yes, why won’t he? He was sitting diagonally behind her so he must have gazed at her all the while.
I’m now annoyed with him or with the girl or the peon or myself. Uhh! Why am I thinking about her? Is it because she was the reason for my transfer to the last bench or because I wasn’t able to see her? Is it the way things start? Lol, that’s funny. You must control your emotions Varun. You don’t even know her name, in fact you haven’t even had a glance of her man. So stop thinking and get back to work.
